The Tuono 1000 R Factory is a special bike for special riders, people who appreciate exclusive design and build quality and who also know how to derive maximum pleasure and satisfaction from the amazing power and handling of the world’s most competitive naked. When it was first introduced, the Aprilia Tuono 1000 R set new standards for all big nakeds. Now, the Tuono 1000 R Factory has raised the bar even higher, establishing the perfect synthesis between quality, technology, and finish.
The performance of the Tuono 1000 R Factory has been boosted to record levels by adopting the same latest generation engine that powers the RSV 1000 R Factory. Now developing 102 kW (139 HP) at the crank and a maximum torque of nearly 11 kgm at only 8,500 rpm, the Aprilia Tuono R Factory is the uncontested leader of all naked twins.
An even more sophisticated chassis enhances the bike’s exceptional dynamics under all possible conditions and enables you to perform like a true professional not only on the road but on the track too.

STYLE
The bike’s styling is like its performance: extreme. The Factory takes the whole Tuono concept to its logical conclusion, even in terms of design. With its aggressive graphics and sporty colour schemes, it is simply impossible to mistake the Tuono 1000 R Factory. The most stunning advanced technology is laid bare on a bike that is proud to show exactly what it’s made of. The fork, frame, swingarm and wheels are all rigorously exposed, because on the Tuono 1000 R Factory, fundamental to performance means fundamental to style. The aggressive looking nose fairing with close-mounted twin headlights is a universally recognised feature of the Tuono, so naturally it remains an essential part of the new, mean looking Factory. The nose fairing has been tested in the wind tunnel to provide maximum wind protection for the rider and to generate lift at high speeds, keeping handling light and precise at all times.
The new engine’s record performance would not be possible without super-efficient aspiration. The Tuono’s Air Runner ram air intake plays a major role in ensuring effective engine breathing. The Tuono is the only naked equipped with this exclusive air intake system.

The Magnesium Evolution 60° V twin engine
The 1000 cc Magnesium Evolution 60° V twin engine is directly derived from the unit that powers the RSV 1000 R Factory. Only minor modifications have been made to boost torque and muscle at low revs. In its latest form, this is the top performing engine on any production twin. Its exceptional power output is not only fully usable but is always delivered with Aprilia’s legendary reliability.
New, larger exhaust valves (increased from 31 to 33 mm in diameter) improve engine breathing, as do the new, larger diameter exhaust downpipes. Thanks to these advances, the new Magnesium V twin puts out more power than ever, achieving an amazing 139 HP at 9,500 rpm, as well as an impressive torque of 10.9 kgm at 8,500 rpm, a figure that clearly tells you what sort of muscle you can expect even at low engine speeds.
The new silencers feature catalytic converters located as near as possible to the collector pipes. This solution has cut converter activation time by 50% and further slashed emissions, keeping them well within the threshold imposed by Euro 3 standards. The second exhaust pipe section has been extended by 200 mm to improve torque at low revs.
In parallel with optimised through-flow and combustion dynamics, the new bike also incorporates improved ignition and injection mapping designed to improve power delivery at all engine speeds.
The following are the most essential characteristics of the Magnesium Evolution 60° V twin engine:

· New, optimised cylinder heads with larger diameter valves and one spark plug per cylinder
· 57 mm throttle bodies with one injector per cylinder
· High strength conrods
· Reduced overall weight thanks to a large number of magnesium engine parts
· Close ratio gearbox
· Dry sump lubrication system with two trochoid pumps and separate oil tank and oil cooler
· Mixed gear and chain valve timing drive with the two gears (one per timing chain) located in the crankcase to reduce cylinder head dimensions
· Anti Vibration Double Countershaft (AVDC)
· Hydraulic action clutch assisted by Aprilia’s patented PPC (Pneumatic Power Clutch) system to control rear wheel bounce during fierce braking

The Tuono 1000 R Factory has inherited the RSV’s ram air duct, with an intake just below the headlights. The intake remains exactly on the bike’s centreline, where ram air pressure is highest. Air reaches the generous 10.3 litre airbox through the Air Runner duct (which also supports the nose fairing and instrumentation) under enough pressure to allow the engine to develop its full power potential. Thanks to the Air Runner system, airbox overpressure increases with speed, leading to a 3% gain in maximum power at top speed.
An engine management unit made in conjunction with Siemens VDO controls all engine parameters. The ECU receives real time signals from 15 parameter sensors, processes them and controls the actuators in real time too, keeping the engine running smoothly at all times.
The flash EPROM already contains racing mapping for unrestricted exhausts. Aprilia service engineers can therefore easily load it on request from customers who intend to use their bikes exclusively on the racetrack.

CHASSIS
In line with Aprilia practice, the frame incorporates aluminium-silicon castings and Peraluman 450 pressings in a super-sophisticated structure that is more rigid yet lighter than ever before. Weighing in at less than 10 kg (9,650 grams to be precise) the frame of the Tuono 1000 R Factory is the lightest on any bike of this type.
The swingarm features a special double member design that provides a clear passage for the new twin silencer exhaust system, and weighs an amazing 4,860 grams, well under the swingarm weight benchmark of 5 kg.
Another factor that contributes to the bike’s unrivalled handling is its minimal unsuspended weight. The Tuono 1000 R Factory is equipped with ultra-light forged aluminium wheels, manufactured by Aprilia specifications. The dramatic weight saving achieved by these fundamental components has minimised inertia and created a bike that is more responsive and precise than ever in establishing trajectories through bends. Lighter wheels also mean less resistance to acceleration and braking, and therefore even better performance.
Superb handling on the track is also ensured by fitting the new Tuono 1000 R Factory with 190/55 rear tyres, specially selected to promote manoeuvrability and responsiveness without penalising grip. As with all sporting Aprilias, however, the Tuono 1000 R Factory is actually homologated for use with three different tyre sizes: 180/55, 190/50 and 190/55.

SUSPENSION

Maximum performance on the racetrack does not allow for compromises in suspension. That is why the system fitted to the Tuono 1000 R Factory is state-of-the-art. An Öhlins 43 mm upside down fork guarantees unrivalled action and precision. The unit is obviously fully adjustable in spring preload and compression and rebound damping, to permit all riders to find the most suitable settings for their own level of skill and experience.
The Öhlins monoshock at the rear is also fully adjustable and specially selected for its smoothness and precision action. Like the forks, this unit makes a major contribution to the road and track handling of the Tuono 1000 R Factory.

BRAKING SYSTEM
The Tuono 1000 R was already fitted with the best braking technology on the market: Brembo Gold radial calipers. The Tuono 1000 R Factory benefits from the same advanced system. The front calipers are fitted with four separate pads (one per piston), made from a special sintered material, to double the number of leading edges in the pad-disc system and deliver greater braking power for the same effort at the lever.
The two 320 mm floating steel discs feature a narrower braking track to minimise inertia and weight, and are fixed in place by Aprilia’s exclusive six spoke flange.
The rear braking system is Brembo Gold too, with a 220 mm stainless steel disc and a caliper with two 32 mm pistons.
The front and rear brakes both use aeronautical metal braided hoses to eliminate the sponginess inevitably associated with conventional brake hoses and to ensure maximum braking precision.

COMPONENTS
The Tuono 1000 R Factory is a special machine in every way, as is every component on it. Made from top quality carbon fibre, aluminium and magnesium, only the best components available have been used to ensure that the bike is not only amazingly powerful, but extremely light and absolutely unique among nakeds.

The following components deserve special mention:
- The new belly pan, side panels and mudguards are made from carbon fibre, contributing (together with the forged aluminium wheels) to a new record weight for this class of bike (181 kg dry weight*).

- The dashboard is a mixed (digital-analog) unit. It receives all its data over a single electrical system CAN line, and acts as an integral part of the autodiagnostic system thanks to a built-in computerised memory unit. Among other functions, the dashboard provides a self-timing function for use on the racetrack, complete with 40 lap memory. The dashboard is extremely modern and compact in design and the entire system weighs only a few kilograms. All functions are controlled from two practical push-buttons incorporated in the lighting switch block on the left handlebar.

The dashboard’s LED backlighting can also be adjusted to three levels of intensity.
- The headlight cluster is derived from that of the RSV, and incorporates four light units for perfect night-time visibility.
- The ignition key is internally coded, and the ignition block is fitted with an engine immobiliser as standard.

TUONO 1000 R

OVERVIEW

$ 12999

Ever since it first appeared on the motorcycling scene, the Tuono has embodied Aprilia’s genius and amazing technical know-how, accumulated through victory after victory in motorcycle racing. The Tuono has come to mean flair and technology more than any other road-going motorcycle.
The fact is that the Tuono is simply unique. Not just another naked, the Tuono is a 1000 cc superbike. Only the fairing has been removed, and the handlebars raised for maximum control. The Tuono has exceeded all expectations. It has proved unbeatable as a road bike, and the Factory version has been invincible on the racetrack, literally dominating the Italian naked racing scene. Not satisfied with success at home, the Tuono has also carried the Aprilia flag on the international racing scene, achieving prestige in epic races like the Isle of Mann Tourist Trophy, to name just one event in which the Tuono has fearlessly taken on production bikes and competition superbikes too. The Tuono is a street fighter with racing in the blood.
The new Tuono 1000 R is refined, powerful, and precise. It holds all the records for this class of motorcycle, and is the unquestioned leader on the twin cylinder scene. To put it simply, the Tuono 1000 R is the bike that all other nakeds have to beat. It is a machine for the demanding motorcyclist, the rider who seeks maximum performance from a naked, on the road and on the track.
With performance beyond the reach of the competition, the Tuono 1000 R is the best naked money can buy, with all the performance of a racing superbike to thrill even the most sophisticated racetrack riders.
The 139 HP engine not only  gives you more power to play with, but makes the bike more usable on the road too. Just like the RSV from which it derives, the Tuono 1000 R embodies the concept of “total ridability” that has always characterised Aprilia’s performance motorcycles.
Manically precise ergonomics combine with amazingly easy control to let you establish a perfect feeling with the bike the moment you ride off, and to help you maximise your own potential with the minimum physical and mental effort.
The improvements that Aprilia’s engineers have made will ensure that the Tuono 1000 R continues to set the pace for high performance nakeds.
Let’s look at some of the main changes.
· New V 60 Magnesium Evolution engine
· Dynamic air intake (the only naked with ram air technology)
· Electronic fuel injection system with 57 mm throttle bodies
· 16 bit engine management unit
· Exhaust system with twin silencers and three way catalytic converter with Lambda probe oxygen sensor
· Aluminium alloy perimeter frame

· Lighter steering yoke

Once again Aprilia has succeeded in producing an exclusive, refined and unique naked. The latest Tuono 1000 R remains the most sought after of all naked twins, and the perfect synthesis of exclusive components, quality, technology and finish.
Like the RSV, the Tuono has been perfected on the track to satisfy the most demanding and refined motorcyclists. Each individual part has been developed to maximise the performance and riding pleasure of a naked that is already a legend in racing circles.
Engine performance is better than ever. Maximum power is 102 kW (139 HP) at the crank and maximum torque 10.9 kgm at only 8,500 rpm. The Aprilia Tuono 1000 R is therefore among the most powerful of all nakeds.

STYLING
The bike’s styling is unmistakably Aprilia, and unmistakably Tuono. The Tuono 1000 R maintains a close family look with the previous model and the RSV 1000 R from which it derives. The new, aggressive nose fairing, with closely mounted twin headlights, has been developed in wind tunnel testing to provide effective protection for the rider and to kill lift at high speeds, ensuring maximum precision and control.
The Tuono 1000 R has been designed with performance and comfort in mind. All parts are styled for stunning looks and maximum functionality. The two lateral spoilers, for example, not only look great but also serve an important aerodynamic purpose. They help keep the bike stable at high speed and keep the wind off the rider’s legs. It is partly thanks to these spoilers that the Tuono 1000 R provides better aerodynamic protection than any other naked.
The design team has also gone to great lengths to ensure that, unlike other nakeds, the Tuono 1000 R benefits from race-tuned engine breathing. The Tuono 1000 R is the only naked with a dynamic air intake located directly under the nose fairing, and a duct to channel ram air through the frame to the airbox. Yet more proof of the Tuono 1000 R’s uncompromising racing soul!
On the Tuono 1000 R, ergonomics is one of the bike’s strong points. The seating position  has been carefully designed to give the rider maximum control over the front end. The handlebar risers are lower and the footrests have been moved further back, so that the riding position is sportier and more effective. Despite this, overall comfort has even improved, so that riding is less tiring.
The sleek tail with its integrated direction indicators is similar to that of the RSV but points upwards to enhance the Tuono 1000 R’s dynamic styling. The bike can also be rapidly transformed from dual seat to single by an official Aprilia kit (optional).

The V60 Magnesium Evolution engine

The latest 1000 cc V 60 Magnesium Evolution engine is derived from that of the RSV 1000 R Factory, with only a few minor changes to improve torque and muscle at low revs. The engine has been thoroughly redesigned to maintain its reputation as the best twin cylinder engine in production. So performance is more amazing than ever, with 100% usable power and, of course, that proverbial Aprilia reliability.
Engine breathing has been improved by new, bigger exhaust valves (enlarged from 31 to 33 mm in diameter) and new, larger diameter exhaust header pipes. Thanks to these improvements, the V60 Magnesium Evolution that drives the Tuono 1000 R puts out more power than ever, 139 HP at 9,500 rpm, while also boosting torque to an impressive 10.9 Kgm at 8,500 rpm, a figure that tells you all you need to know about the muscle that Aprilia’s V twin can deliver even at low revs.
The silencers have catalytic converters installed nearer to the collector pipes. This solution has reduced converter activation time by 50% while further reducing the level of exhaust emissions, keeping tem well within the strict limits required for Euro 3 homologation.
Optimised fluid dynamics inside the cylinder heads have been enhanced by improved mapping of the combined ignition and fuel injection systems to achieve higher power throughout the useful rev range.

So let’s have a look at the main characteristics of the new V 60 Magnesium Evolution engine:
· New optimised cylinder heads with bigger valves and one spark plug per cylinder
· 57 mm throttle bodies with one injector per cylinder
· High strength conrods
· Lighter overall weight thanks to the extensive use of magnesium
· Close-ratio gearbox
· Dry sump lubrication with a double trochoid pump, separate oil tank and oil cooler
· Mixed gear and chain valve timing. The drive gears (one for each timing chain) are located inside the crankcase to keep the cylinder heads as compact as possible.
· AVDC (Anti Vibration Double Countershaft).
· Aprilia’s patented PPC (Pneumatic Power Clutch) hydraulically operated, power assisted clutch system for controlling rear wheel bounce under deceleration

The Tuono 1000 R inherits the RSV’s dynamic air intake, locating it just under the headlight cluster, in the centre of the bike where ram air pressure is highest. The Air Runner duct (which also supports the nose fairing and instruments) channels the air to a 10.3 litre airbox, designed to allow the engine to develop its full potential. The Air Runner duct ensures that pressure in the airbox increases with speed, and generates a 3% increase in engine power at maximum speed.
An engine control unit developed in conjunction with Siemens VDO provides integrated engine management. The ECU receives all essential engine parameters in real time from 15 different sensors, processes the data and, again in real time, controls the various actuators that keep the engine functioning perfectly at all times.
The unit’s flash EPROM comes with the mapping for unrestricted racing exhausts ready loaded. Aprilia’s Technical Assistance Service can therefore enable race mapping in next to no time on request.

FRAME
Whether you are riding on the road or on the track, the Tuono 1000 R’s chassis brings you the tops in performance and control. Every aspect of the frame, fork and suspensions has been fine tuned for perfect weight distribution. In keeping with Aprilia traditions, the frame is a combination of aluminium-silicon alloy castings and Peraluman 450 pressed parts. This highly sophisticated structure is not only more rigid than the previous version but lighter too. The latest frame weighs under 10 kg (9650 grams) setting an impressive new record for its class. The wheelbase is shorter too, and at 1410 mm – another record for the category – accounts for the Tuono 1000 R’s crisper than even handling and more instinctive ride.
The new double banana swingarm provides a clear passage for the exhaust system and weighs only 4860 grams, well under the 5 kg figure considered by experts to be the reference weight for this component.

SUSPENSION
The fork is a Showa upside down unit, with 43 mm stanchions for a perfect balance between precision on the racetrack and comfort on the road. And to ensure that the ideal setup can be achieved for all styles and conditions, on the road and on the track alike, the fork is fully adjustable in spring preload and in compression and rebound damping. The Sachs monoshock at the rear is likewise adjustable in spring preload and rebound damping.

BRAKING SYSTEM
The braking system has undergone a number of major changes. The new Tuono 1000 R is equipped with Brembo Gold radial calipers featuring two separate sintered pads. The two 320 mm floating steel discs feature a narrower braking band to minimise inertia and weight and are fixed in place by Aprilia’s exclusive six spoke flange.

COMPONENTS

What makes the Aprilia Tuono 1000 R stand out from the competition is the tremendous care and attention that Aprilia has paid to every little detail. The design team have done their very best to ensure that every component on the bike improves its performance and functionality, reduces its weight and enhances its quality and finish.

The following components deserve special mention.
- The dashboard is a mixed (digital-analog) unit. It uses the data received over the CAN line to perform an essential autodiagnostic function for which it incorporates a dedicated memory. The new dashboard control unit performs the same functions as the previous unit (including the 40 lap timer) but is more compact and modern in design and extremely lightweight. User friendliness has improved too, with all functions controlled from two practical push-buttons on the left hand light switch.

The LED backlighting can also be adjusted to three levels of intensity.
· The headlight cluster is derived from that of the RSV, and incorporates four light units for perfect night-time visibility.
· The new tail light cluster features the innovative design and LED lighting of the RSV.
· The ignition key is internally coded, and  the ignition block is fitted with an engine immobiliser as standard.

These elements complement the pure design of the Dorsoduro 1200 perfectly, with an outstanding attention to detail evident in features such as the two-tone paintwork of the frame, the tail fairing colour-coded with the rest of the body elements and the new dual exhaust with black heat shields. Even the 15 litre fuel tank is perfectly integrated into the sleek forms of the Dorsoduro 1200.

Dorsoduro 1200 a bike with the soul of a pure motard racer. The ultra-narrow mid section of the bike - the area that interacts most with the movements of the rider's body when riding hard - emphasises the extreme compactness of the bike itself. The rider becomes an integral part of the machine and can move freely in the slender and perfectly straight saddle to dominate the brutal power of the engine in all situations. None of the typical acrobatics of the motard style are beyond the reach of this bike.

THE 1200 cc V90 ENGINE: THE STATE OF THE ART IN TWIN CYLINDER TECHNOLOGY

The Aprilia V90 is a completely new design. It is a modern, technologically advanced unit with a highly oversquare cylinder geometry for a markedly sporty temperament and smooth power delivery.

Every internal element of the Dorsoduro 1200 has been designed to optimise power delivery and make full use of the incredible 130 hp unleashed by the engine at 8700 rpm. Every single detail is conceived to complement the outrageously acrobatic character of the bike.

  • 90° V-twin architecture;
  • Triple map Ride by Wire technology (with Sport, Touring and Rain maps);
  • Highly oversquare bore/stroke ratio;
  • Offset cylinders for maximum lateral compactness;
  • Four valves per cylinder;
  • Double overhead camshafts driven by a mixed chain/gear valve timing system;
  • Twin spark ignition for smooth but full-bore power delivery;
  • Electronic fuel injection with dual throttle bodies;
  • Stick-coils integrated in spark plug boots;
  • Three-way catalytic converter with oxygen sensor;
  • Hydraulically operated clutch.

The latest generation injection system uses micro-nebuliser injectors. In conjunction with optimised fluid dynamics, this solution ensures ideal combustion, for an engine that is not only powerful but also extremely clean. Twin spark ignition also contributes to cleaner emissions, as well as ensuring totally smooth power delivery.

With sophisticated electronic engine management, the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 is the new benchmark for technology and performance in its class.

Aprilia was the first manufacturer to believe in the potential of Ride by Wire, a highly sophisticated technology that helps the rider extract every ounce of performance from the motorcycle. The electronic throttle management system used in the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 represents the current state of the art. Even more precise and sophisticated maps ensure optimised engine management, keeping the engine in the perfect conditions to deliver maximum acceleration at all times for a riding experience unlike anything you've ever seen before. This solution also ensures smoother, fuller power delivery at low and medium engine speeds, for optimised engine efficiency even in low load, partial throttle conditions.

With its triple maps (Rain, Touring and Sport), the bike has three distinct personalities that the rider can choose from at any time to instantaneously suit every possible condition and preference. Simply close the throttle and press a button to choose the desired setting.

SPORT: extreme, for when you want to put yourself to the test with immediate and direct explosive power.

TOURING: smooth, for making full use of the shattering power of the 1200 cc engine in all conditions.

RAIN: balanced, with power reigned in to 100 hp for maximum fun even in poor grip or wet conditions.

With its state-of-art technology, the Aprilia V90 unleashes class-beating levels of power. No other maxi motard comes close to the performance of the Dorsoduro 1200: with 130 hp at 8,700 rpm and a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 7,200 rpm, this engine sets new records for the motard genre. To further emphasise the performance of the engine, a new 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust system has been designed specifically for the bike. Made entirely from stainless steel, the generous internal volume of the system ensures a spine-tingling and distinctive sound.

THE FRAME: FEATHER-LIGHT BUT ULTRA-STIFF

Aprilia bikes have always been considered as the benchmark for chassis excellence by those in the know.

And true to tradition, Dorsoduro 1200 is the most effective, best balanced bike in its class. While tailored for total riding fun, as with all Aprilia bikes, the chassis layout of the Dorsoduro also earns respect for its formidable dynamic balance. With the Dorsoduro, extreme agility does come at the cost of a nervous temperament, and its highly effective chassis layout ensures total precision and a sensation of being directly connected to the front wheel. And this is something that can only be said of very few motards out there.

The mixed frame design, constructed with a sturdy tubular steel trellis mated to lateral aluminium plates, is highly acclaimed by both enthusiasts and experts alike, while the aluminium saddle mounting contributes to lightening the bike. The product of Aprilia's experience in the world Supermoto championship, the frame offers perfect balance in terms of stiffness to deliver supreme handling, even with the explosive power of the new 1200 cc V90.

The lateral and steeply raked position of the rear shock absorber is a precise engineering choice, determined after testing numerous different configurations. This solution frees up precious space for the generously sized exhaust headers, which are needed to fully exploit the potential of the 1200 cc engine. This made it possible to optimise the layout of the exhaust system without adding unnecessarily to the length of the bike, while also protecting the shock absorber - a vital component in its own right - from high temperatures.

SUSPENSION: PERFORMANCE UNDER CONTROL

The suspension of the Dorsoduro 1200 has been designed to fully exploit the incredible performance of the engine and offer the best solutions that anyone could ever desire in an extreme motard. The 43 mm Sachs upside-down fork with shell-cast calliper brackets features adjustable spring preload and hydraulic compression and rebound damping. In addition to permitting total adjustability, this extremely sophisticated component offers class-beating progressiveness and a full 160 mm of wheel travel, in perfect keeping with the supermoto riding style.

The side-mounted Sachs gas shock absorber with separate canister is pivoted directly onto the swingarm in a cantilever configuration and features adjustable spring preload and hydraulic compression and rebound damping. A component allowing experienced riders to explore the full potential of the bike's performance, even on the track. The rear wheel stroke is 155mm, again in line with the supermoto philosophy that aims for an effective, controlled suspension but with a long stroke.

BRAKES: RACING TECHNOLOGY

The Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 adopts the state of the art in brake technology: at the front are 4-piston radial Brembo callipers gripping 320 mm floating discs. The 240 mm rear disc is also braked by a Brembo calliper - in this case a single piston unit.

Both the front and rear brake systems employ aeronautical grade metal braided hoses, which eliminate the undesirable pressure fluctuations of conventional hoses for maximum braking precision and truly class-beating stopping performance.

COMPONENTRY: TOP OF THE CLASS

Motards are by definition essential or even spartan. This, however, does not mean having to do without class-beating premium content. Aprilia moves the bar even higher for its rivals with top class features components. The most significant of these are:

  • Matrix instrument panel: the mixed digital-analogue instrument panel receives information via the CAN line and, with its own dedicated event log memory, is an integral part of the self-diagnostic system. Particularly compact, with a modern design and considerably reduced weight. All functions are accessible from a control on the handlebar. The LED backlight - white for the analogue area and red for the digital display - has three different brightness settings.
  • The anodised aluminium tapered handlebar is an unequivocal reference to competition supermoto bikes. An incredibly light component, designed to guarantee top dynamic control of the bike.
  • Ensuring consistently precise engagement and exemplary smoothness, the hydraulic clutch is self-adjusting and, as a result, maintenance-free.

SHIVER 750

OVERVIEW

$ 9499

It is certainly no easy matter to take the lead in a class as fiercely competitive as the medium powered naked class.  A class where the battle is not just about technology and performance, but also design, component rationality and riding ease and pleasure, elements which are not always compatible and are particularly demanding for designers and engineers.
Aprilia has picked up this challenge and interpreted it by applying its own successful philosophy to a completely new design, destined to set new standards for years to come.  A bike both strongly aggressive and at the same time clean-cut and elegant, in perfect Aprilia style.  A bike at the top of its class for its sporty personality, designed on the basis of the know-how of a company which has to date won 250 world championship victories.
The pride of all Aprilia bikes, refined mechanics and a top class chassis, are once again the key to the success of the Shiver 750.
The Aprilia Shiver 750 is the naked everyone was waiting for. A design able to satisfy the disparate needs of those buying this type of bike.  From everyday use to a trip along mountain passes or use on the racetrack, the Aprilia Shiver 750 is completely at home in any situation, guaranteeing pure riding pleasure at all times.
Light, agile and powerful, it has a new generation engine and the most advanced technical features in its class.  The brand new 90° V2 produced entirely in-house by Aprilia is extremely compact. Above all, thanks to the advanced electronic management, it can deliver a level of power comparable to four cylinder engines in the same class, but with much more favourable torque at low revs for an efficient and pleasing ride even on everyday routes.  True to the Aprilia tradition, the chassis simply has no rivals in its class.  The innovative mixed trellis/aluminium frame provides standard setting rigidity. All this makes the bike extremely compact, perfect even for the beginner.
With a dry weight of just 189 kg, the lightness of the Aprilia Shiver 750 also satisfies the most canny motorcyclist. Its manoeuvrability and engine performance enable the bike to accompany its owner from his first few metres on two wheels up to his complete motorcycling maturity.
The main characteristics of the Aprilia Shiver 750 are:

• 90° V2 engine with four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshaft and liquid cooling
• Ride-by-Wire technology for electronic control of the throttle bodies
• Electronic fuel injection with latest generation injectors
• Mixed gear and chain valve timing
• Three way catalytic converter on the exhaust, with Lambda oxygen sensor
• Modular trellis/aluminium frame for high torsional rigidity
• Aluminium swingarm with reinforcement truss and lateral shock absorber
• 43 mm upside down fork
• Racing brakes with radial caliper at front

THE DESIGN: SHAPE AT THE SERVICE OF POWER
As with every Aprilia product, the Shiver 750 has a highly innovative design where form and function come together to create an almost perfect object. The Aprilia Shiver 750 is pure technology and this is evident in its sharp, sporty lines.
The frame and engine, both brand new, are the foundations of the design and are also, rightly, the main elements characterising the look of the Shiver 750. Each element has been designed to be not just beautiful but also functional. The design is refined, but at the same time clean-cut, without too many frills for the maximum possible functionality. The Aprilia Shiver 750 exhaust is also a very distinctive design element.  On the Aprilia Shiver 750, the technical component becomes a design element at the same time, creating a bike both aggressive and at the same time elegant.
The tank-seat-tail assembly further emphasises the compactness of the bike. The rider becomes one with the machine, perfectly integrated in the short, agile, and sporty bike.  This helps establish an immediate feeling between the rider and the bike, making everyone feel as if they have always been riding it.  The strongly tapering tail also incorporates the twin exhaust with triangular silencers, a feature which makes the design even more aggressive, while keeping weight distribution highly symmetrical.
The Aprilia Shiver 750 is compact, functional and attractive. The adoption of a side shock absorber not only adds a further distinctive feature to the look of the bike, but also enables a rational and compact exhaust system to be fitted.

THE V90 ENGINE: TECHNOLOGY IN THE PURE STATE
The V90 engine inherits all Aprilia's experience in high performance mechanics. Endless hours of bench and road tests have produced a genuine masterpiece of mechanical engineering, capable not just of high performance, but also complete reliability. Thanks to its particular technical characteristics, the Aprilia V90 combines high specific power with maximum usability and easy riding.
A generous twin cylinder heart, destined to set new performance and technology standards for medium powered bikes. The engine has been designed by the Aprilia Research and Development department which set out to create a powerful and reliable engine requiring very limited maintenance.
The quest for performance at the top of its class led to the adoption of a number of advanced and innovative technical features:

• 90° V engine layout;
• Ride-by-Wire technology;
• Highly over-square bore and stroke ratio;
• Four valves per cylinder;
• Double overhead camshaft with mixed chain and gear drive;
• Electronic fuel injection with two throttle bodies;
• Plug caps with integrated stick-coils;
• Three way catalytic converter and Lambda probe oxygen sensor;
• Hydraulically operated clutch;

For this type of bike, the 90° V arrangement of the cylinders was found to be the best solution in terms of performance and size. With consistently generous torque available across a wide range of revs and negligible vibrations, the Aprilia V2 750 is full and powerful at the top of its class.
The timing deserves special mention. Motion is transmitted to the four valves per cylinder and double camshaft by a mixed gear/chain system.  This technical application, already adopted by Aprilia in the V60 mounted on the RSV 1000 R, enables the size of the engine to be kept down, while guaranteeing more precise and reliable valve timing.  The chain is shorter, for less overall stress and a longer working life; this makes the engine shorter.
The latest generation injection system uses fine atomising injectors. This solution, combined with advanced fluid dynamics ensures optimum combustion for an engine which is not just more powerful, but cleaner too.
The sophisticated electronic management makes the Aprilia Shiver 750 a new benchmark for nakeds.  In the Aprilia Shiver 750, integral Ride-by-Wire technology becomes standard equipment for the first time in the history of motorcycling. The electronic accelerator management optimises opening of the throttle bodies according to numerous parameters, including engine speed, gear selected, the degree of throttle opening of closing and the speed of throttle movement, temperature and atmospheric pressure.  The engine is therefore always able to offer optimum performance in acceleration and pick-up and the lowest possible consumption for a still more fluid and profitable ride. This innovative solution guarantees even fuller and more regular output at low and medium speeds, optimising running of the engine, even with the choke.
Thanks to the technology used, the Aprilia V90 manages to deliver exceptionally high power for the engine configuration. Maximum power of 95 HP at 9000 revs and maximum torque of 81 Nm at 7000 revs are excellent for a twin of this capacity. The high torque available even at low speeds makes the Aprilia Shiver 750 incomparable to ride on mixed routes.
A latest generation engine management unit controls all engine parameters. All data passes through a CAN (Controlled Area Network) line to the instrument panel, which also

acts as a diagnostic terminal. The CAN line uses just two cables to transmit all data. This simplifies the electrical system enormously as well as reducing the total weight of the bike.
The exhaust is made entirely from stainless steel. The manifolds come together under the seat in a single silencer with twin tail pipes. The large volume (10 litres) contributes to perfect engine breathing for excellent efficiency.

THE FRAME: RATIONALITY AND EFFICIENCY
Experts have always acknowledged that Aprilia bikes have the best chassis in their class.  The Aprilia Shiver 750 is concrete confirmation that once again Aprilia has managed to create a chassis which is both extremely easy and intuitive and incredibly high performance. The frame exploits all the knowledge Aprilia has gained in racing and also draws on new studies on mixed structures with the futuristic RXV and SXV, already winners of a number of titles on the racetrack.  The top part of the tubular steel trellis is connected to large side plates by means of special high strength bolts.  This creates an extremely rigid lightweight frame, the best solution to harness all the horsepower of the Aprilia V90.
Creation of an Aprilia bike always involves synergy between chassis and engine engineers.  The fundamental design choices for the V90 engine led to construction of a highly rational and efficient frame. The reduced longitudinal dimensions of the engine made it possible to obtain a short, agile bike, helped by the particular side positioning of the shock absorber, not a simple cosmetic mannerism, but a precise technical decision  which created valuable space for the exhaust manifolds whose shape and size have been calibrated perfectly to ensure maximum engine efficiency.  This enabled the optimum exhaust manifold configuration to be obtained, without too heavily affecting the length of the bike and without exposing the shock absorber, a fundamental element for the ride, to heat stress.
The aluminium swingarm with reinforcement truss has been sized specifically to support the asymmetrical stresses caused by lateral positioning of the shock absorber.  The rigidity of the swingarm sets new standards for the class.

SUSPENSION
Optimum definition of the suspension is an obsession for Aprilia designers.  Even such a "simple" bike as a naked must have the best possible available.  The Aprilia Shiver750 therefore stands out from the pack in this delicate area as well.
The 43 mm upside down fork with forged feet to support the radial calipers provides benchmark smoothness.  The 120 mm wheel travel makes the bike equally at home on abouttown trips and mountain routes. The bottom steering yoke is made from forged aluminium, the top steering yoke from forged aluminium.
The side shock absorber rests directly on the swingarm, according to the cantilever principle, and provides adjustments for spring preload and hydraulic rebound. Rear wheel travel is 130 mm.

THE BRAKES
The best technology currently available is incorporated in the Aprilia Shiver 750, the first medium powered naked with a radial caliper system, a feature emphasising evenfurther (as if it were needed) the sporty personality of the design.  The 320 mm front discs are the same as used in the racing flagships, the RSV 1000 R and Tuono 1000 R.
At the back, a 245 mm disc with single piston caliper provides adequate backup for the front circuit.
The front and rear braking circuits both use aeronautical metal braid hoses to eliminate the pressure variations associated with conventional rubber brake lines,guaranteeing maximum braking precision for a top level system.

COMPONENTS
- The Matrix instrument panel: the combined digital and analog instrument panel receives all the data over a CAN line and acts as an integral part of theself-diagnostics system as it also has a memory.  The design is extremely modern, compact and lightweight. INNOVATIVE MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION

The half-fairing makes the GT version even more unique and lets you get the very best out of the V2 850-engine performance with Sportgear transmission. A two-cylinder engine that with its 76 HP and exceptionally flat torque curve gives excellent performance already at low revs, in acceleration, pick-up and at speed, and is the perfect match for the touring soul of the Mana 850 GT and the motorcyclist's need for responsiveness.

Intelligent transmission
The primary drive is the focal point of the entire Mana range. The Sportgear transmission offers the rider a choice of different driving modes:

•Sequential mode: The rider decides when to change gear by using the conventional control on the pedal or by pressing a switch on the handlebars as desired. An electronically-controlled servo mechanism acts on the main pulley which changes the gearshift mode with seven gear ratios amazingly quickly. Only during deceleration, if the rider does not manually change gear, the engine automatically changes down gear using the Semi-Sequential function and preventing the minimum RPM threshold from going below the set limit. Another valuable aid to safe riding.
•Fully automatic mode (Autodrive): the sophisticated electronics control everything and the CVT transmission keeps the engine running at maximum torque speed for optimum pick-up and acceleration. The rider can choose from three different mappings:
1.Touring: for those who want a softer power delivery and minimum fuel consumption;
2.Sport: for maximum performance and quick acceleration;
3.Rain: on wet or slippery roads in maximum safety; Semi-Autodrive mode only allows the rider to change down gear. This is useful for overtaking at maximum torque revs or when riding down a hill when engine braking is required.

You can switch from Autodrive to Sequential mode and vice versa at any time and in any riding conditions. The handlebar gearshift control can be disabled from the dashboard.

With this technical solution, the Mana GT 850 adapts perfectly to any type of road and offers relaxed cruising or exhilarating sports riding depending on the rider's needs or wishes.

ELEGANT DESIGN AND INGENIOUS SOLUTIONS

Mana GT 850 uses the same technical base as the Mana and shares the same exclusive and unmistakable Italian design. The original fairing with adjustable windshield that surrounds the characteristic round headlamp, a distinctive feature of the Mana range, is practical and elegant.
The 16-litre tank is located under the saddle in a lower position to distribute weight more evenly and lower the bike’s centre of gravity making it incredibly light and easy to ride. Where the tank would normally be is occupied instead by an illuminated storage compartment lined with non-slip, non-scratch material and big enough to hold a full-face helmet as well as a mobile-phone holder and a 12V-power socket. All this offers storage capacity which is virtually unheard of in the world of motorcycling.
Like its Naked sister bike, the compartment is opened electrically by a switch on the handlebar. Opening is controlled by a hydropneumatic damper that is designed to prevent accidental opening while the bike is in motion. A manually operated lever under the passenger seat is provided to release the compartment lid in the event of a flat battery.

SPECIAL CHASSIS

The refined chassis on the Aprilia Mana GT 850 guarantees relaxed, safe handling on all road surfaces. The robust steel tube trellis frame has a single piece aluminium swingarm that directly controls a laterally-offset shock absorber that frees precious space for the exhaust pipe in the delicate area behind the engine which makes the motorcycle very compact and manageable when changing direction both in town traffic and when out riding in the hills during the weekend.
On the Mana GT 850 the spring preload and damper rebound can be adjusted with a knob and has been moved to the outside. It can be easily accessed for quick and precise adjustments to adapt to your own particular riding needs and bike load (passenger, luggage, etc.).

The 43-mm upside down fork slides easily and has an optimised set-up that suits the new weight distribution and the touring nature of this bike.Its 120-mm front wheel travel allows you to effortlessly tackle all sorts of road surface and offers the right support even under sport riding conditions.

SAFETY FIRST

The Mana GT 850 is the most versatile motorcycle on the market with the most complete range of technical equipment that focuses on the concept of safety.
The only one in its category, the efficient braking system, which has a front system with 320 mm discs and radial calipers, combined with a latest generation two-channel Continental ABS system that increases active and passive riding safety even when braking on difficult road surfaces avoiding locking up the brakes as well as improving braking performance. In fact, on the Mana 850 GT ABS all riders can fully use the bike’s generous braking power in perfect safety on any road surface.

Add to this the total concentration on riding guaranteed by the Autodrive gearshift mode even in busy city traffic. Plus traffic light burning acceleration for an agile, responsive and quick motorcycle that pulls you away from any emergency situation as well as Rain mapping to help when riding on road surfaces with reduced grip.
